Is it Art?

When does a photograph become art?  There are so many people now that have cameras.  All of them can shoot pictures, but can they all be art?  Photography is a unique blend of left and right brain activity. In this new digital age, it provides us with instant gratification too. Let me back up here a bit. The left brain part of photography is the dials and fstops and aperatures and lens length and so on.  The right brain part is the framing and compostion of the photo as well as the application of the fstops, aperatures and so on.  I think that this is why so many of us love photography.  It combines the science and art of taking an image.  The third element of a good photograph is luck. So many times it just HAPPENS, the shot of a lifetime.  One can only hope that at this moment in time all things come into alignment, science, art, luck, and the photography gods are kind and you get that shot! When it all comes down to it, the only person that can decide if a photograph is "just a snapshot" or if it is worthy of being called art, is the person who is viewing it at the time!
